Terre Thaemlitz: Snowflakes & Dog Whistles: Best Electroacoustic Ambient & Sexpanic 1995-2017
A double-CD compiling twenty-nine of Terre Thaemlitz' best electroacoustic ambient and computer music works produced between 1995 to 2017, including many special edits only available on this release. The majority of these tracks have been physically out of print for years. They were originally released on a variety of labels including Mille Plateaux, Daisyworld Discs (Haruomi Hosono of YMO's private imprint), Instinct Ambient, Caipirinha Productions, and of course Thaemlitz' own Comatonse Recordings. The first disc, Snowflakes, focuses on tracks that are more conventionally ambient or perhaps even "pretty." Dog Whistles, the second disc, compiles tracks featuring a chaotic array of samples and sounds that are more overtly related to themes of gender- and sexual variance. Released December 1, 2024.

Will Long: Acid Trax
Will Long (aka Celer; Oh, Yoko; etc.) returns to Comatonse Recordings with Acid Trax, a double album of minimal trax conjuring the best of the early days of Chicago acid house. DJ Sprinkles also drops in as a guest collaborator with percussion edits on "Acid Trax S," and takes things further into deepness with remixes of "Acid Trax N" and "Acid Trax B." Terre Thaemlitz: Tranquilizer EP3: 040468 / 2AM on a Silo / Raw Through a Straw
The third and final vinyl EP in the Tranquilizer 30th anniversary re-issue series, cut by Rashad Becker, is now available exclusively through Boomkat. As with the previous two EP's, it is a limited run of 500 and will likely sell out quickly. (My apologies to any of you who missed either of the first two due to my lack of announcement.) The A-side features "040468" and "2AM on a Silo," while the B-side sees the Loft classic "Raw Through a Straw" receive what is probably its best quality vinyl presentation to date.

V.A.: Fagjazz (Reissue)
A special reissue of "Fagjazz," the double CD originally released in 2000 that introduced the world to the expression 「ベリー・ファッキング重低音」. Disc 1 compiles tracks from various Comatonse releases, many of which had previously only been available on vinyl. However, the real centerpiece of the release is Disc 2 "Superbonus," an hour long ambient-jazz track in 5/4 time only found here, for which Thaemlitz received an Honorable Mention in Digital Musics from the 1999 ORF Prix Ars Electronica competition. For the collectors, the versions of "Sloppy 42nds" and "Thirty Shades of Grey" found here are different than those found on Terre's Neu Wuss Fusion "Recalls" (C.030, 2021). As a bit of an experiment, Comatonse Recordings/Terre Thaemlitz now have a page on Bandcamp: comatonse.bandcamp.com. It features digital downloads of older releases that we have sold out of, but there is not enough interest for a physical repress. Many of these are Terre's older ambient and electroacoustic projects, including a few items previously only available on 7-inch vinyl. Releases include:

There is also Comp x Comp, a digital exclusive compilation of electroacoustic and ambient tracks I had released on compilations over the years. It contains the previously unreleased "Mille Glaces.000-009," a series of ten audio shorts intended for release in an anniversary compilation for the label Mille Plateaux (DE), which I believe was cancelled during the 2003 bankruptcy. In keeping with the "Mille Plateaux" theme, "Mille Glaces" (or "One Thousand Layers") is generated using one thousand 1-minute audio excerpts from the Mille Plateaux catalog. "Mille Glaces.000" is a digital mix of 1000 layers of audio heard simultaneously. "Mille Glaces.001-009" are recordings of my computer crashing as it attempts to play the same files in realtime (a Power Macintosh 7100 with Sound Designer II card).
Meanwhile, our emphasis remains on physical formats and "offline digital culture." Please continue to get the latest Comatonse releases - as well as a few of Terre's older items still in stock - through the Comatonse Shop.

The project was produced with support from documenta 14 and Akademie der Künste der Welt, with the world premiere at documenta 14 in Athens on July 9, 2017. The overall theme uniting the texts is a defense of pessimism and a critical rejection of the incessant optimism lurking at the core of virtually all media - even in the 'critical fields' themselves, where it reflects our conformity to those First World humanist and capitalist practices we wish to critique.
Additional new commentary notes by Terre Thaemlitz explain why the texts sometimes still fraudulently use positive terminology, and break up the linearity of the reading process - thus incorporating the theme of 'nuisance' throughout the book.

The audio on the 2014 CD is identical to the 2008 first edition and subsequent represses on Mule Musiq. There are no plans for a vinyl edition because the bass spatialization effects that give many of these recordings their sonic character are incompatible with vinyl mastering techniques.

DJ Sprinkles: Queerifications & Ruins - Collected Remixes by DJ Sprinkles
A double CD compiling the bulk of DJ Sprinkles' remix work produced between 2006 and 2013. Sprinkles' subjects include woozy Real Estate offshoot Ducktails, Leftroom boss Matt Tolfrey, Berlin-based Acid House practitioner June and Japanese producer Kuniyuki. Of the 14 tracks on the disc, four are previously unreleased, whereas the remainder have cropped up on labels ranging from Simple Recordings to Ojo De Apolo. The double CD edition also features additional exclusive remixes of Chicago producer Area and French DJ Hardrock Striker.

NOW IN STOCK: A lost rarity uncovered while attempting to re-organize my book shelves: my anonymous contribution to the 1999 Alku microcassette series "AV/M." This microcassette contains a single, exclusive, untitled track made in an ambient/collage/plunderphonic style, with a duration of 4'14" (four minutes, fourteen seconds). I believe it was an edition of 20 - of which I have 10! In terms of quantity produced, this is beyond a doubt the rarest of all my releases - hence the stupid price. Limit one per customer. These copies are part of a limited edition of 250 tapes that have long been sold out everywhere else! This is Chugga's full-length album produced in 1996, from which the two tracks featured on their sexily titled 7-inch vinyl, "A Big 7-Inch," released in 2003 by Klanggalerie (limited to 200 copies, of which we still have 10 or so copies available through our shop as well). …How can you get off your body?... you are not riding a body, isn't it? It might be possible to get off the body... but how or by what are you transported then?
Can you leave it for a while? Can you take a vacation from your body ? ...How long can you stay out of yourself ...without losing it all together...
A composition of voices, sounds, lights and space that evolves in four tales about bodilessness.
TALES OF THE BODILESS explore a condition that is hard to imagine before you experience it: a world without human bodies .Once humans are a past, and hence, no longer central, the world is made vacant for fantasies about nonhuman forms of existence. Four landscapes of sensations and cognitions, of sinking and dissolving, of neurosis and aggression, of joy and expansion, of explosion and dissipation. A bodiless world requires that theater send its proper body - the stage - on vacation.
This entails that the theatrical regime of senses and faculties in this performance is unsettled: listening battles vision and sight. The spectators' bodies remain a rare live presence that gives duration to the fictions they inhabit.

After 12 years of the old interface, comatonse.com has been completely redesigned. Over the years the site has grown to over 1000 pages, all of which had to be reorganize and manually recoded, so you'll pardon Terre for procrastinating.

P.S. For those of you who enjoyed the chaos of the old site, don't worry... there are plenty of easter eggs hidden throughout the site. (Did you catch the easter egg in that last sentence? No, not the link to Wikipedia, you dolt... that's just a normal link! try harder!) In fact, the old site is still hidden in here somewhere!
